Lubrication refers to the natural moistening of the vagina and vulva, which most often accompanies sexual arousal and makes intercourse more comfortable. It results from transudation through the vaginal wall and from the secretion of small glands. Its intensity varies with arousal, hormones, the menstrual cycle, age, stress, or certain medications. Less lubrication does not mean a lack of desire, and using a lubricant can then be a perfectly legitimate comfort. Whether lubrication seems insufficient or very abundant, these variations are common and can be explored calmly.
