The vulva refers to all of the external female genital organs, and should not be confused with the vagina, which is internal. It includes the mons pubis, the outer and inner labia, the glans of the clitoris and its hood, and the vestibule, where the urethra and vagina open. Every vulva is unique: the size, shape, color, and symmetry of the labia vary enormously from one person to another, and all of these variations are normal. Learning to observe and name your own anatomy, without judgment, is often a valuable step toward a more peaceful relationship with your body.
